Original Title: "Protect document" is diabled.
"Protect document" is diabled. I tried visiting other forums before seeking help here.My design mode is OFF . I have been using this feature for more than 3 years for 2003 and 2007 versions without any issues. I have restarted my machine twice.
All of a sudden today, i am unable to unlock my old document and lock my new document. Nothing happens. The tab is greyed out and not available for selection.
I have tried multiple forums and all advising me to turn off the design mode button which is already turned OFF in my new documents and not available for selection in my old documents.
Can somebody tell me what is wrong?

Actually i found the what the problem is.
It seems the the option has been disabled for our group by our system admin. I stepped out and checked few of my collegue's Word options.
Sorry for all the trouble.
I will now put a help desk call.
Try to open Word in application safe and check how it works.
Go to Start->click on all programs-> Accessories-> Run-> Type ‘winword /safe’ without quotes and click on ok. (Note: leave a space between’ Winword and ‘/’)

I checked the mailings --> Mail merge options. All options within that tab are also disbaled

All of the options in the Protect Document pane will be disabled if the document is a mail merge main document. Check therefore under Mailings>Start Mail Merge that the document is a Normal Word Document
