Align problem for bibliography

I can't get the align command turned off, under page layout/arrange/ align. It happened when I was doing a bibliography for a class. Now all my citations are aligned to the left and I can't move a single line of text to the right. If I open a new word document, it's there also. When I click on "align", the align to page and align to margin and gridlines are highlighted. The others aaren't. When I click on the check mark, nothing happens - like it's stuck. I need it off. Please help!
