The tooltip which normally appears in Excel 2007 when dragging row or column borders to show the size has disappeared.

Any ideas how to get this back?

This problem has now been resolved by Microsoft Support. The issue was due to excel registry settings left over from previous Office installations. I assume this is why the problem didn't occur in Safe Mode - apart from disabling Add-Ins it was also disabling these registry settings. The solution involved deleting Excel, removing all registry references to Excel and then re-installing Excel. Thanks to those who suggested solutions.

    Hi Rick,

Tried this but no joy. I then ran the diagnostics tool within Excel and also the repair tool from add/remove programs - both again, with no luck.

    However...

tried running Excel in Safe Mode and this time success! So the next step I guess is to look at Addins but I'm not running any non-standard Microsoft Addins so I'm not sure where to go from here. Any ideas?

Let's rule out memory corruption as a possibility. First try shutting Excel down and then reopening it. If that does not fix the problem, then close all your programs down and reboot the computer.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately, I think this setting applies only to the screentips displayed when using formulas/function and it was enabled anyway.

I tried it ('cos I'm getting really frustrated!) i.e. disabled and re-enabled but no success.

    Try the steps below,

    1. Open Excel.
    2. Click the Office Button - Excel Options - Advanced.
    3. In the Display area, click theĀ 'Show function ScreenTips' check box.
