Conditional formatting, edit formatting window, problem with "long" formula

Question

I have 2 challenges with editing conditional formatting rules (using a formula to determine the format):

1. When my formula is longer than the default size editing window I'd like to expand the window (make it wider) - but that appears not possible (or is it?), I don't have the usual double-sided arrows that would allow to re-size the window. (Other windows eg Define Name can be re-sized.)
2. I can't use the cursor buttons (left/right) to scroll through the formula because that inserts a "+" and a new cell-reference. The only way to move around in such a formula is by mouse (left-hold-pull) as if I wanted to highlight an area. (not very intuitive)

How best to edit longish formulae in the "Edit Formatting Rule" window?

1. I agree this is an annoying feature. What I do is either write the formula out in a cell somewhere and then cut/paste, or use notepad.
2. Hit the F2 key. This "toggles" between using arrow keys to reference cells, and moving through the formula. This applies to CF formulas and named range formulas

1. There's no remedy for that. If I have to create complex formulas for conditional formatting, I create and test them in a cell, then copy/paste into the formula box in the conditional formatting dialog.
2. Press F2 to be able to use the arrow keys.
