multilevel list duplicate numbers

Hello,

Could someone assist me with the best way to achieve using the same number twice in a multilevel list. We have a number of documents where content needs to be manually removed depending on circumstance. I want to achieve the example below:

1 main point

1.1 sub point

(i) item one

(ii) item two - option 1

(ii) item two - option 2

(iii) item three

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers,

Mark

This is the sort of situation in which manual numbering might make more sense than auto numbering, but what you could try is to create a new style identical to but not based on the numbered style, with the same hanging indent but no numbering. Then insert a cross-reference to the number of the relevant paragraph as the number of this paragraph and follow it with a space or tab to match the numbered paragraphs. Cross-references do not update dynamically (as soon as the referenced number changes), but they do update automatically when you update fields (as by printing or switching to Print Preview).

    Thanks Suzanne,

This answer put me on the right track and I have got where I wanted to get by using a combination of multi level list numbering, single level numbering and listnum fields.

    Cheers,

    Mark
