Powerpoint Error: Error code 400282

Our department uses MS Office Professional 2007 and one staff on campus is trying to save a powerpoint file and we get this error message:"PowerPoint found an error that it can't correct. You should save presentations, quit, and then restart PowerPoint".

For what it is worth, the staff member uses Vista at home and XP in office and uses Office 2007 at both locations. I suspect it has something to do with compatibility issues...

So I pressed CTRL+SHIFT+I to get the error code [400282] and tried searching over the net to no avail.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

NCODTech

If the user is using 2007 both places, why do you think it's compatibility issues?

Are you able to save the file at all? Maybe try Save As and see if you can save it under a different name.

Once you get the file closed, then reopen PPT and go to Office Button | PPT Options | Resources. Run Office Diagnostics there.

In addition, make sure you have a local printer driver installed and set as the default printer. Sounds weird, I know, but it really might fix the issue. Here's info on what to do:http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00952.htm

Finally, it could be a conflicting add-in. If you go to Office Button | PPT Options | Add-ins, what is listed there?

(We've had two posts about this error message in the past few hours. I wonder if a Windows or Office update has caused problems?)

NCODTech, I had the same problem. I agree with you that it is a compatibility problem.

I just uninstalled Microsoft Office and reinstalled. Then run powerpoint (do not run the corrupted powerpoint file, run the powerpoint from start menu) and click "office" button on the top left corner, click open, and choose the corrupted file or any presentation u want to open. Now u can change and save the file as u want.

Here is my explanation for this; When you uninstall Microsoft Office, it keeps some files and options. After reinstalling if u try open the corrupted file directly, it doesnt apply the defult options of the reinstalled product, it continues using previous options.

One more thing to check: Are both machines up-to-date on service patches and updates for Office and for Win XP/Vista?

(I suggest this because I just connected with a user who is seeing this error, but does not have any service packs for Office on one of the machines.)

In addition to Echo's suggestion you can try these steps too.

Check if the version of office is same on both the machines. If its not you may want to check the article mentioned below:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813720

This issue could also occur due to an antivirus application on the machine, reboot the machine in clean boot and check if the issue occurs:

    Windows vista/ windows 7:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

    Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353/en-us

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting in clean boot, ensure you restart the computer in normal mode.
