Undo does not work after Search and Replace

When I perform a Search and Replace (Replace all) and try to reverse the operation immediately, Undo does not work. It only works when I use Replace to make the changes one by one.

Could I be doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Repeat after me class ...

    "It's not a bug, it's a FEATURE!"

Sorry, I couldn't resist <grin>.

   "It depends ..."

(I'm on a roll, I've got a million of them)

OK down to business.

In theory the undo should work. One thing it depends on is how many changes you are making. Sometimes the change is so large that it will overflow the buffer. In that case Word should give you a warning, giving you the option to continue or cancel the change.

Although it does not apply to this situation, since the undo is tried immediately, there are some commands and functions that will clear the undo stack. This tip mentions a few of the commands:

Sad to say, "features" will follow you even there. The, difference is how the developer reacts to user complaints about them. "In theory", open source can react faster because users can write their own fixes.

Geez Rohn007, I can't take all these FEATURES. I think I'm going to transition to OpenOffice.org's office suite that lacks all of these "features."

Replace All should be the last item listed in the Undo dropdown (just above Cancel). What do you see?

    I don't see this.

What are you replacing with what? And what shows on the Undo dropdown?

Does it fail in Safe mode (press and hold Ctrl while starting Word)?

    Enjoy,
