Spread linked Excel table over multiple pages

I want to paste a large Excel table into Word (as a 'link' so that updates to the Excel table are easily passed through to the Word document), but the table is too large to fit on one page.  Is there a way to make the table automatically break across pages in Word, and to repeat the column headings on each page?

Part of the problem seems to be that one of the 'updates' in Excel is to select certain rows of the table using filtering.  If the number and/or height of selected items increases, the table will not expand to a second page.  It does expand into the top and bottom margins, right to the edges of the page.  In fact, the table runs right off the page, so some items at the bottom cannot be seen, even though the table has been shrunk to 'fit' on one page.

Perhaps I am asking too much of Excel and Word, but I would appreciate any suggestions about how to make this work -- thanks!

If you paste the link as a Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object, it cannot cross page breaks in Word, everything will have to fit on one page.

If you paste the link as formatted text, unformatted text or HTML, the table can cross page breaks in Word.

    Thanks for your help!

Obviously, it is not an ideal situation for what I am trying to do, but at least I now know the limitations within which I have to work....
