Adding macros to existing .dotm

Hello,

My work puts their own .dotm file in our MS Word "STARTUP" folder, to which are saved  the macros that we use everyday for work, and that is how they transfer their macros from computer to computer. My question is: I have now made some more of my own macros, and I want to add them to this .dotm so that I can give the macros to everyone else in the office.

How do I do this? I have tried following Microsoft instructions on making a template from an existing template, but it didn't seem to work and came up with an error message (run-time error 5853) in word once I had put the .dotm in the startup folder...

Please help! Is it possible to write my macros to this template?? Thanks :)

Me creating my own template just isn't working for me, I don't think I know enough. I just tried New>template whilst the company template was in startup, then saving it with a different name and swapping it for the company template, but this doesn't work...

    Two templates will be fine.

The reference in the web page refers to the fact that until recently support was provided by newsgroups and it was common to post snippets of code for the benefit of users. While many of us who answer questions still use newsreading software to access the forums, most users now access via the web interface. Thus the reference is simply referring to copying code in text format from wherever it is obtained. I will update the page when I have a minute or two.

Can I create a new template which contains all the old company macros and includes my own? Or does it suffice to have two .dotm files in the startup folder?

Also Thanks for the link Graham Mayor, I am just a bit confused at step 5- Copy the complete block of code from the newsgroup message to the clipboard

    What is the newsgroup message?

It would make more sense to leave the company template alone and create a separate new template to contain the macros you want to share.http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm

Without knowing what code you have created, it is impossible to determine what is wrong with it.

    Hi,

I think this is genrally caused by and error in one of the functions (Macros) which appears when the template is loaded on startup.

You could test thiss by create a template then adding one function at a time in the template, saving and testing..

I hope this give some sort of help
