So that we are on the same page... The columns at the top are labeled A, B, C, ... and the rows are labeled 1, 2, 3 ...
That is how XL works and you can not change it. If you changed it then formulas would not be able to reference the cells effectively. What you can do is to add numbers into column A. In A3 add the number 1. In A4 add the number 2. Highlight both of those cells and by grabbing the bottom right corner of the selected cells and dragging it down you can create the numbering that you want.
