Format Painter changes text to bold

I am using word to reorganise an old document library, creating modularised versions of functional specifications. So I am copying from older documents into the noew ones, and then using the format painter to match the style of the new document.

Every time I apply the format painter, the 'painted' text goes bold when neither the old text nor the new format are bold. I have to click the bold button once or sometimes even twice to remove the bolding.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this might be happening?

All, I've discovered a solution. If I paste the format twice, the problem is resolved. So I use

"highlight old section -> shift-ctrl-C -> highlight new section -> shift-ctrl-V"

instead of

"highlight old section -> formatpainter button -> highlight new section".

If the formatting isn't correct I can just shift-ctrl-V again and voila!

Thanks for all your input.

    Thanks for the quick reply Mary.

    I tried this, but it didn't help. Copying and pasting the format, whether over bits of text the entire word, line or table cell still causes the problem.

    cheers,

    Brett

    Hi Elec_Monk,

    There was a trick I learned a long time ago that may help. When you select the formatted text the source document make sure that you don't include the ending paragraph marker. It's possible that it may contain formatting history that could interfere. As an example, if you inspect the formatting you could see instances of Bold as well as Not Bold which I suspect could cause a conflict.

    I think it's worth a shot.

    Would be interested to know if this solves the problem.

    It would be better to define a style with the formatting that you want and then apply that style to the text.
