installation source is not available, verify source, what does this mean

I have had excel 2003 on my computer since 2006...when i click on excel 2003 it now tries to install product and then says "installation source for this product unavailable, verify source. When i try to reinstall the disks, i get a page full of files, and when I click on setup.exe I get an error message that says installation source for this product is unavailable , verify...what happened..and how can this be fixed?

Run ‘Fix it’ from the following KB article to remove existing corrupted Office installation and then try installing the Office suite.

Note: Make sure that you have the installation source and check product key before removing the Office suite.
