Document cannot be opened for editing

My office live space was converted to SkyDrive a month or so ago, and I had not tried to use it since then.  Tonight I have been unable to open any documents in Word or in the browser version of Word.  I get an error message that says "This document cannot be opened for editing".  Nothing else.  When I try to create an online version of a new document, I am allowed to create the new document with a name, but after I name the document and try to open it for editing, I get the same error message.

Actually, I had another question, what do you mean by (emphasis mine):

My office live space was converted to SkyDrive a month or so ago, and I had not tried to use it since then.Tonight I have been unable to open any documents in Word or in the browser version of Word. I get an error message that says "This document cannot be opened for editing". Nothing else. When I try to create an online version of a new document, I am allowed to create the new document with a name, but after I name the document and try to open it for editing, I get the same error message.

What error is Microsoft Word saying?  Did you try going to SkyDrive and selecting "Open in Word".  Did that work?  Did you see an error?

P.S. Sorry for the double post, but enough time has past that I was worried you may have read my original reply and not noticed the change.

    Hi ZvillePath,

That's weird.  If it is happening even with completely new documents created on SkyDrive, then it might be because something is wrong on the server you are hitting.  If that is the case, then I'd wait a day or two, and see if the problem goes away.  If the problem persists be sure to post and let us know!

It is also possible that something went wrong with the Javascript file you downloaded.  If you clear your browser cache (and cookies) and try again it might fix the problem.  Alternatively, you could try form a different computer and see if that is also hitting the problem.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

Edit: Actually another possibilities just came to mind.  It is possible that the Office Web Apps are not available in your locale yet.  Based in a recent  blog post, the Office Web Apps (on SkyDrive) are currently available in: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Russia, Switzerland, UK, and US.  It is possible that more locales were made available since that post though.
