MS Document Scanning throws "An internal error occurred...."

I have an Epson Perfection 1200U document scanner.  It had been working just fine with MS Document Scanning until just a few days ago.  Now when I click on Scan in MS Document Scanning I get the following:  “An internal error has occurred.  If this problem persists, reinstall the application.”  The scanner is working fine with Corel Paint Shop Pro and some other freeware scanning programs.  I also tested the scanner for compatibility and that went fine..  I have the latest TWAIN driver.  I am running MS Office XP Pro in Windows XP, SP3.  Why is MS Document Scanning suddenly throwing this error, and how do I correct the problem.

Hello JFreedman

Did anything change or get updated since the last successful scan? That may need to be addressed.

I would start with doing a repair of the MS Office installation. Here are a couple articles that may help if needed:
