sounds like the autocorrect "feature". Try looking in Tools menu / Autocorrect command / AutoCorrect dialog box / Autocorrect tab / there are a couple of capitalize options here

... /AutoFormat as you Type tab / maybe "Format beginning of list item like the one before it"?

In Tools | AutoCorrect Options, you can disable "Capitalize first letter of sentences." Word assumes that the beginning of a paragraph is the beginning of a sentence, and when you press Enter, you are creating a new paragraph. Alternatively, if you are typing poetry or the like, use a line break (Shift+Enter) instead of a paragraph break.

Thank you so much Rohn007.  I saw that box, but thought it was for bullet lists, etc.  I unchecked it and it got rid of a very annoying and time consuming feature. Thanks again!
