I use Office for Home Student.  Originally Office 2007 then updated to office 2008 v. 12.3.1.

When I try to open some of Excel files. They are opened "Read Only" though I did not set any password to restrict using them and I used to open them without any problems. The Attribute now is read only. I did not make this. A message says: Some one else is using this file. You have reading rights only. Only my wife is sharing me this Mac.  She neither did that, nor has any knowledge of Excel.

    Let's troubleshoot this simply.

    1. Restart the computer
    2. Open Excel by clicking the Excel Dock icon
    3. In Excel, use File > Open
    4. Navigate to one of the problem files and choose Open

    Does the file open normally?

Is the file shared on a network or is it been accessed from an external device?

If its saved on a network, try to save the file locally and then try to access it, check the result.

Thank you for your answer. I appreciate your effort.

But, I'm sorry. These tests - for me - are so complicated that I cannot perform. I'm a novice.

Thank You for your reply and Sorry for my delay. I was not in a position to attend to it.

The files are not shared. Now I believe that this is a virus. Possibly a Macro, because all these files' names are starting with identical words and because I believe my E-Mail Account was compromised. If I use these words to name a New File. The same thing happens and the new file is also read only!! When I save these files I must use another names. Then these newly saved files normal (read&write). This is exactly what I did. I saved them all under another names, then, I deleted them all and closed this E-Mail Account.

However, I still have this (Virus/ Macro or whatsoever) in my computer. I do not know how to get rid of it. I'm just not naming new files using the same words.

Can anyone help me getting rid of it?
