Inserting text in multiple locations

I am trying to set up a standard document.  Can I set up a field or similar in the front page (or anywhere else in the document) and when I type into the field it automatically updates all through the document.  e.g. setting up a crane procedure and placing they type of crane (Franna) onto page then it will automatically insert "Franna" into every place in the document where I want to reference "Franna".  (this is to chage every time we use the document for a different crane).

I have searched everywhere and cannot find how to do this.

You can do it with "fields".

If you are using Word2010 then you might as well use the content controls it provides instead of form fields.  You can easily map content controls using my:  http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/ContentControl_Variable_Bookmark_and_Document_Property_Tools_Add_In.htm

A mapped content control is bound to a data node in the underlying XML structure of the document.  If you change any of the controls mapped to the node then all of the controls mapped to the node change accordingly.
