The FIND function stop working

I can no longer use FIND (the little binoculars) to search for a word I know is in the document.  FIND comes back with

"Word has finished searching docuemnt.  The search item was not found."

Display the Find dialog box (Ctrl+F) to verify that you have the correct settings. (Within the current session, Word remembers the settings chosen in that dialog box, which means you may have to change them manually.)
