-pure virtual function call

I then receive the message that Microsoft Excel has stopped working and am kicked out of the program.

I also get the following problem signature:

Bill,

Thanks for the fast response.  I started excel in safe mode like you suggested and it saved without any errors.  I had installed AspenPlus V7.2 (a chemical engineering simulator) on my computer yesterday morning and it installed 2 excel add-ins.  I removed both of these add-ins and everything is now running fine.  I am not sure why it was running yesterday and not today, but at least it's working now!  Thanks again!

No idea what's causing it.  I've never heard of that error before.

First thing I would try is running Excel in Safe mode (hold down Ctrl key while launching Excel).

  • if the problem goes away then an add-in or startup program is the cause; try a process of elimination
  • if the problem is still there, come back and tell us.

What has changed since yesterday?

  • an update installed?  Try rolling it back
  • something else?

Open Excel then go to File, Options, Add-Ins.  If I remember correctly, it was the two COM add-ins that were causing the problems, so at the bottom of the "View and Manage Microsoft Add-Ins" page select COM Add-Ins and click "Go."  Select the ASPEN add-ins that show up and tell excel to remove them.

Finally, restart your computer and open Excel back up.  I have not had a recurrance of the problem since I removed the add-ins so hopefully everything will work for you now too.  Good luck!

    Matt,

Omg, you got very much the error that I've got.

I had been struggling for a day and couldn't fix it, but you got the answer!

Could you explain how did you remove two add-ins of AspenPlus V7.2 to excel?

    Thanks.
