Word 2007

I followed the instructions to set a hyperlink base for relative hyperlinks but when I try to insert the hyperlink, I first get a message that the "link" may not be safe.  After I click "Continue", I get an error message that the file to which I am trying to link cannot be found.

FWIW you can set the Hyperlink Base in the same place as you could do it in previous versions of Word, i.e. in the Document Properties Summary tab. In Word 2007 you can get there using Office button->Prepare->Properties->Document Properties->Advanced Properties->Summary. There is more info. onlne at

You know, this is far more complicated than it ought to be, and frankly I'm fed-up of trying to get it to work.

Even if I did get it to work, I'll have loads more work in the future trying to do something that used to work perfectly before Microsoft decided to "progress" with what is actually a regressive version of Word. If it wasn't for the fact that our clients use 2007/10 I'd go back to 2003 in a flash. It's far more productive

As for now, it looks like I'm going to have to come up with a different solution.

    Yeah, you've missed the point.

The reason to have a relative hyperlink is so that you can link to a document within a specified folder, so, as I stated, you can copy that folder to a disc and the hyperlinks still work because they are relative to one another within a specified folder rather than to your entire hard drive . If the link is to a document on your hard drive then its an absolute hyperlink which isn't what I want.

You know, this simply doesn't work. I've been trying for weeks to get a relative hyperlink in a Word 2007 document to work and I just can't. I've tried everything suggested and all the tutorials I can find but nothing works. It was such a simple process in Word 2003 but the 2007 suite is just rubbish.

I've even run the doc through notepad to strip out all the code and then go through it replacing the links but it either opens Internet explorer to try and find your document on the internet or is says the link doesn't work or it does nothing. Its just a relative link. Why has Microsoft ruined it?

    Peter

Thank you.  I have not even looked at Prepare. That is a strange place to hide things and I would be really interested in the thinking that went on at Microsoft when they came up with that one.
