Shared Notebook on Network Not Syncing

I have a shared notebook on a network drive. I have read that OneNote 2010 synchronizes changes automatically. However, if User1 makes some edits to the notebook, they are not appearing in User2's notebook until (1) some amount of time has passed and (2) User2 clicksFile > View Sync Status > Sync Now.

How long after User1 makes changes are they synchronized to the shared notebook? Will the RTM version support truly immediate and automatic synchronization? Or, am I not waiting long enough for the changes to be synchronized to User2? I understand this is a beta, so I just want to get an idea of how it should work in the final version.

Thanks in advance.

Dianne

Where are is your notebook located?  Are you on SharePoint?  2007 or 2010?  Or are you on a UNC share?

Also what format is your notebook?  This will help us answer this.

Yes, your summary is correct. That's what I'm seeing with simultaneous editing of the same notebook with the beta.

I haven't had occasion to test simultaneous editing of the same notebook (at least as far as I know) in the RTM version.  But it should be reasonably quick - by that I mean, a matter of seconds or maybe a minute at most.  Especially across a LAN.

So what you're saying is that changes to pages inside an existing section sync pretty quickly, but adding an entirely NEW section doesn't happen until the user explicitly syncs?

Thanks for the reply, Ben. Yes, I have the notebook set to sync automatically.

I did some further testing, and what I noticed is that if User 2 is working in the section that User1 is updating, the changes do synch pretty quickly. However, if User1 does something like add a new section to the notebook, then User2 doesn't see that until they explicitly sync the notebook. Well, it has been about 15 minutes now, and the new section isn't visible.

So, I'm curious as to whether this is just some beta funkiness or something in the way the sync functionality works?

It should be sync'd fairly immediately.

If you right-click the notebook and choose "Notebook sync status" is the radio button for "Sync Automatically" selected or is "Work offline" selected?
