BEX and APPCRASH errors

New PC, Windows 7, MS Office 2010 Pro. No problems for first couple of weeks but during the last week I've had repeated errors in Excel. Only Excel, so far. Usually occurs when I am attempting to save an Excel file, either a BEX or APPCRASH error. Doesn't happen all the time, but with increasing frequency. Doesn't happen with just one particular file. I may have to restart the program/re-open the file numerous times before it will suddenly work. This has happened with Excel files created from the prior PC as well as from new Excel files created on this PC. Googling led me to add Excel as an exception under DEP but that didn't fix it.  Thread from one error is:

Problem signature:

  Problem Event Name:                        BEX

  Application Name:                             EXCEL.EXE

  Application Version:                           14.0.4756.1000

  Application Timestamp:                     4b9c08e8

  Fault Module Name:                          unknown

  Fault Module Version:                        0.0.0.0

  Fault Module Timestamp:                  00000000

  Exception Offset:                                3126e979

  Exception Code:                                  c0000005

  Exception Data:                                   00000008

  OS Version:                                          6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48

  Locale ID:                                             1033

Additional information about the problem:

  LCID:                                                     1033

  skulcid:                                                 1033

Anyone have ideas of what is occurring?

I had a similar problem using Win7(64) and Excel 2010.

For me, the Bex error appeared during application launch.

I got rid of it by uninstalling "ABBYY Finereader Sprint", from control panel / programs and features.

I didn't even take the time to read up on what this program does. Never heard of it, don't use it. Excel works fine for me now.

If you don't regularly use ABBYY, might be worth getting rid of it to see if it clears up your excel probs.

THANK YOU, this fixed my problem!

I had the following error messages pop-up for Word or Excel:

    Word:

Problem signature:  Problem Event Name:    BEX  Application Name:    WINWORD.EXE  Application Version:    15.0.4505.1003  Application Timestamp:    51538404  Fault Module Name:    unknown  Fault Module Version:    0.0.0.0  Fault Module Timestamp:    00000000  Exception Offset:    003fd8c8  Exception Code:    c0000005  Exception Data:    00000008  OS Version:    6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3  Locale ID:    2057Additional information about the problem:  LCID:    1033  skulcid:    1033Excel:Problem signature:  Problem Event Name:    BEX  Application Name:    EXCEL.EXE  Application Version:    15.0.4505.1001  Application Timestamp:    514044f8  Fault Module Name:    unknown  Fault Module Version:    0.0.0.0  Fault Module Timestamp:    00000000  Exception Offset:    0033eb48  Exception Code:    c0000005  Exception Data:    00000008  OS Version:    6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3  Locale ID:    2057Additional information about the problem:  LCID:    1033  skulcid:    1033

I hope this helps more people in the future! The only issues MS should look into is why there seem to be a conflict between these programs (why should I have to uninstall ABBYY to run my Office applications?? (I don't really care though, as I never even used that problem, I still shoudln't have to uninstall it though..))

Try opening excel in safe mode and check if it works fine

    1.    Click on start>all programs

    2.    Accessories>run

    3.    Type” excel /safe” (without quotes)

Note: Make sure there is a space between outlook and ‘/’

    4.    If this works fine then try disabling the add-ins and check

    5.    Open excel>click on file>options>add-ins and try disabling the add-ins and check which add-in is causing the issue.
