On a continual basis my excel files can only be opened as a "repaired" file.  All formats and styles are stripped away.

The root cause of your problem is the same as "Too many different formats" error. Answer is here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2003-excel/too-many-different-cell-formats/5b2fdc26-ed5b-4459-8461-5d9d89ebe9a9.  You must run your file backup (if you have one) through style cleaner process. I recommend my OOXML utility because it will remove inaccesible to VBA hidden corrupted styles or else you will end up in the same corrupted state really soon.

Is this a moving target?.......it seemed originally you were using ExcelXP, now you say 2007....which is it?

In either event, I assume you are accessing these files off your local computer rather than a network, and I assume that the Drive you are accessing has at least 25% unused area......I would first do a thorough Virus Scan, then a Defrag, and if necessary a re-install of Office.

    Hello G.

I downloaded and tried to run each version of Office XP Service pack 3 and got the following message:  "The Expected Version of the Product Was Not Found on Your Computer."  I am using Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 on a Dell computer.

Regarding the issue at hand, The recovery log file says:

Error were detected in file Compile.xlsx

Removed Records:  Style from /xl/styles.xml part (Styles)

Repaired Records:  Format from / xl/styles.sml part (Styles)

    Thank you for your help.

What is the file format you are trying to open?

Have you installed all the updates for Office?

Download and install the Office XP service pack 3 and verify the results:
