Office Help: Not Context Sensitive

Anonymous

Sometimes - or should I write quite often - when I hit the [F1] button in German Word, Excel or other Office programs, I just get the local Help home page. If I then switch over to using online help, it's just the same: All I see is the online Help home page.

This is very onerous, particularly when searching for the impacts of an option in the Options dialog.

Will this be solved in an upcoming update?

It should be completely obvious what the original questioner was seeking: context-sensitive help as evidenced by the title "Office Help: Not Context Sensitive."  Allow me to add a little here -- If Excel displays that nifty yellow diamond with an exclamation point in it for a cell that has a formula that resolves to #REF, we know there is an error.  One of the options from that nifty arrow is "Help on this error."  I realize Excel can't know the specific error but it DOES and SHOULD know the user is dealing with a #REF situation.  What the original questioner and now I are asking is why is Excel NOT taking us to a more specific content area, e.g. "#REF Errors?" Again, context sensitivity is the key question here.

I too am searching for Help on the many options in the Office applications but in English.  Did you ever get his issue resolved?

    Sorry for replying so late...

I'm searching for help on some of those many options available for each of the Office applications.

Whenever I hit F1 I only get a general help page like this . And entering any text into the Search field regarding the option I'm searching an explanation for doesn't yield any explanation about the option.

The German version of Office has some flaws in translation. While the English option texts might be self-explaining, the German option texts aren't. They have been translated 1:1 without considering language context.

By default, pressing F1 will open up help from office.microsoft.com in Office 2010.

What exactly are you looking for after pressing the F1 button?

Provide more information on the issue in order to assist you better.
