Hello

Excel 2010

Everytime I update a pivot table and then refresh the pivot table I lose the formatting.

I found  the instructions below from Microsoft Support

  1. Start Excel, and then open the file you want.
  2. Modify the pivot table with the changes you want.
  3. On the Pivot Table toolbar, click Pivot Table, click Table Options, click to clear the AutoFormat table check box, and then click OK.
  4. On the File menu, click Save.

My problem is that I do not cannot find the Auto-format table check box

This is what I'm doing

select a cell in pivot table

select Options from pivot table tool bar

then options

options again

Pivot Table Options  screen  that has 6 tabs

I've gone thru all tabs and I do not see  AutoFormat Table check box

Where I'm I going wrong?

Thanks, thanks

The AutoFormat Table check box has been replaced with two check boxes in the Layout & Format tab of the PivotTable Options dialog:

Autofit column widths on update

and

Preserve cell formatting on update.

You probably want to clear the first one and tick the second one.

The problem is, the check box on the Layout and Format tab for "preserve cell formatting on upadate" does not work.

On the pivot table, hover your mouse at the top of the column you would like to format until a black arrow appears.

Left click to highlight all the data in the column, then use the formatting options on the Home ribbon.
