Cannot access the Office Excel component. Please check the DCOM Config of the Excel application in Component Services.

We recently purchased new machines that runs on Windows 7 64-bit and came installed with Windows 2010 starter.  We use another program (Advent Axys) that exports information to Microsoft Excel.

I installed our copy of Microsoft Office 2007 on the computer.  At this point I had no problems using the export feature to Excel.

I next uninstalled Microsoft Office 2010 starter.  When I tried to export to Excel in Axys this error came up before Microsoft Excel opens:

"Cannot access the Office Excel component.  Please check the DCOM Config of the Excel application in Component Services."

You can continue past that and when Excel opens this error message pops up:

C:\Users\Ken\AppData\Local\Temp\xlsc6DD.tmp could not be found.  Make sure file has not been renamed, moved, or disabled.

Now no program will allow me to export data to Excel.

Steps that I have taken:

1.  Uninstalled Microsoft Office 2007

2.  Restarted then installed Microsoft Office 2007.

3.  Same problem

  1. Ran Diagnotics from Miscrosoft Excel
  2. Completed with no issues, problem not resolved.
  3. Via Contol Panel in the installed programs area I ran the repair utility
  4. Ran successfully, problem not resolved.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Frankly disappointed with the lack of assistance received here but I thought I would post the solution just in case some poor soul has the same issue and comes here for help.

The problem was that the Excel program was running in Windows XP Compatibility mode.  Right clink on program in start menu or shortcut, go to compatibility tab and uncheck box for run this program in compatibility mode.  Problem solved.

    Additional information:

I installed a Office 2010 starter on the system and the functionality worked again but as soon as I clicked on Microsoft Word 2007 edition it brought up a window that said:

Configuring Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2007.

As soon as that happens it breaks the functionality.

Thanks for the response!  I can get to the control panel no problem but I have nothing labeled tools to click on :(  Did you mean Control Panel, Programs, Default Programs, Make a file type always open a specific program?
