Access 2010 - Error 3071 when making changes to query created in previous version

I am doing some work for a client that has one machine on 2010 while the others are 2007.  The problem seems to occur when I make a change to query that was previously created.  Prior to making the change, the query was working but now I get the error 3071

  • "this expression is typed incorrectly or is too complex to be evaluated..."  I have also gotten this error when I tried to use a new field that was added to the table.

Should I only do work on one computer?  Should I try to stay always in one version?

The rule of thumb is to always work in the lowest version. Of course you split the application in front-end (on each workstation) and back-end (on the server).
