Documents from templates & printing

I downloaded a user template. I can use it to create a doc. I tab thru the prompts and enter data when prompted then I save the doc. When I do a print preview of either the doc or the template although there is data when I opened them the preview shows a page of the right size with no data. What do I have to do to see the data on my preview and print it? I can create a template from scratch and the preview is OK. I'm running Word 2007 on Vista 64 bit OS. What gives?

Many templates use text boxes to arrange the text, and in this case the text boxes are in the drawing layer rather than the text layer. Make sure that you have "Print drawings created in Word" checked under "Printing options" at Office Button | Word Options | Display.

It's the second one you mentioned. I tried it again with the same results. I'm sure it's something simple but at this point it's not worth the effort. Thanks so much for your information. Without wasting too much more time if you happen to think of anything else, let me know. At this point it's a challange for me to try and figure it out! After all, it was rated well by the user community so it must work for some of them.

I'm assuming it is the template from http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/results.aspx?qu=word+check&origin=FX101741961#ai:TC030009600, which is described as a "Blank Business Check Template." My impression is that it is a very poorly designed template, combining text boxes and tables in a confusing way, but if I fill in the payee, amount, etc., I do see them in Print Preview.

Although that's the only one I could actually find through the Office Template Gallery (whose filtering leaves a lot to be desired), by googling I did find http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/personal-check-template-6-x-2-75-TC030004322.aspx, which may be the one you're using. It also is rather poorly designed, but I can fill it in and see the result in Print Preview.

I have created templates with text boxes and they work fine as you suggested. The one I downloaded was for a personal check (check it out if you care to). It has boxes of differing sizes on the template which are drawn in dashed blue lines. I checked my settings and they are as you stated but this one doesn't work in print preview or print. It's the only personal check template on the Microsoft downloadable templates site I could find.

Possible the text is all set as Hidden text. Use SelectAll (Ctrl+A) and then go to the Font dialog and make sure that Hidden is clear.
