New MPP project file will not open in Project 2010

I have spent the last 10 days creating a project in MS Project Pro 2010 and now the file will not open.  The file size is 2 MB and it still contains the data--it will open in a free viewer (moos).  However when I try to open it in MS Project the application only opens a new default project (project1.mpp) and provides no error messaging.

How do I get my file back???

You post suggests you are trying to open it by double-clicking the file on the desktop.  Try start Project and then using File, Open.

If it opens than there is probably a file association issue which you can try to handle this way:

    In Windows XP:

    1. Locate the file as you have described above
    2. Right click the file
    3. Select Open with from the pop-up menu
    4. Click Choose default program…
    5. Select Excel in the Recommended Programs box
    6. Check Always use the selected program to open this kind of file
    7. Click on OK.

    Hi Shane,

I suppose in 5. you mean Project rather than Excel :-)
