paste special formats - grouped rows missing

I select "all" on one sheet,

open a new workbook, paste values and then paste special formats

In my new sheet, only some of my originally grouped rows are there. some are missing, they are not grouped.

My file is created in earlier versions of office but has been converted to office 2010 format .xlsm by saving as.

I have both grouped columns and rows, but it seems like it's only rows that are affected.

any ideas? other ways to copy/paste to keep the grouped rows.

When you open a new workbook from within a Excel workbook (.XLSM). It will open the new Workbook as .XLS only.

Save the .XLS file in .XSLM and then input the data and try the step to see if the issue occurs.

Sorry but it still doesn't work.

When you say complete workbook, I suspect you mean complete worksheet?

I even tried to do it within the workbook.

I created a new sheet in the same book, selected all ctrl Alt in old sheet , copied

selected all in new sheet, pasted values and sourceformat.

But my row groups are still missing.

Thanks for trying to find a solution   : - )

Try to open the New Excel workbook from clicking File > New > Blank Workbook from the same Process of Excel from which the data is copied from.

Make sure you are selecting the complete workbook including the empty cells  and check if that helps.

    It's a .xlsm file

If I do the same with a fresh file it works if I only have row groups but if I have a combination of both column and row groups the rowgroups are missing. Can you reproduce?

I tried the value and source formatting and no change I'm afraid.

The columns groups are intact but the row groups are missing.

How have you saved the file, is it in '.xlsm' or '.xlsx'?

What happens when you try the same on a test file?

Use the 'Value and source formatting' in Paste special and check if that works.
