In 'Word', how can I display a document in a left hand column running over multiple pages with the same text in a right hand column [which I can then amend, to show changes made to the original text in the left hand column]?****

You can use a two-column (unbordered) table for this. You can start a new row each time you want to sync the text in the columns (but be sure to start a new row at least once per page).
