Windows 7 64bit errors, has Visual C++ 2005 64bit and Visual C++ 2008 32bit

My friend has Microsoft Windows 7 64 bit installed (system info shows Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Operating System) on a 13mth old pc & is now getting Side-by-side errors for MS Office (winword & excel & maybe others):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.EXE

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect....

The versions of Microsoft Visual C++ installed show as follows:

I would've thought she'd have Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable - x64 (64bit) installed, but it shows these installed instead:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable - x64 (64bit)

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 (32bit)

What is the recommendation here please?

To install visual c++ 2010 x64 version

& uninstall the other 2 (esp the 2008 x86 version)?

More details of the problem: "ive got windows 7.. the problem i had to start with.. i installed a program.. it loaded but wouldnt open.. told me wasnt compatible with the windows version I had.. so then i deleted the program... since then everything was playing up.. so I restored the system to the day before I loaded the program... and now nothing works. no office, itunes etc.... uninstalled all those programs having problems with and reinstalled and now get all these errors. thing is was working fine till I installed this other program.. then did a system restore."

Looks like it has Office 32bit instead of 64bit... maybe the cause???

Thanks in advance :)

when I googled the exact same error, all the forums/threads I found said it was to do with Visual C++ Redistributable, regardless of the program that was installed or trying to be run...

More info:

"Im the friend.... Quicktime, Itunes, Word, All of office, these the only programs tried to open and comes up that message... Have deleted all, uninstalled and reinstalled all and still comes up those messages.... Basically everything I have put onto the computer doesnt work.

My hubby bought home a Harley program he uses at work to learn more on.. I installed in.. got all the way to the end of installation and came up couldnt be installed because was compatible with the windows version...

I deleted everything to do with that program that went on..

Then found my computer was havent a spastic abit.. So I did a system restore to the day before I did the program...

Everything looked like it was fine.. till I went to use Itunes... wouldnt open.. So Uninstalled it and everything that went with it.. in the order it was suppose to be done and reinstalled, wont open...

Went to open Office.. Excel.. this message comes up. "

Do you have a recovery disk, if so try using it to restore it back to factory settings and see if that helps.

If not, or if that does not help, check with phone support and see if they have anything to suggest.

    Per: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_7-system/side-by-side-error-on-windows-7-ultimate-64bit/a1ab5987-0396-4371-b6e9-ecafcac9f96e

    suggests

    * install Visual C++ 2005 Redist SP1 from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=14431 (vcredist_x64.exe)  (this didnt fix the errors though)

    * run sfc system file checker per: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.htmlhttp://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

      OPTION TWO (reworded step 1):

      1. start > all programs > accessories > right click 'command prompt' > Run as administrator

      2. type: sfc /scannow

         press enter, may take a while

    Latest...

    1. uninstalled Visual C++ Redistributable 2008 x86 (32bit)
    2. cant uninstall Visuall C++ Redistributable 2005 - error:

    "The path 'C:\Windows\TEMP\IXP000.TMP\vcredist.msi' cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'vcredist.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable."

    1. rebooted PC
    2. installed Visual C++ Redistributable 2010 x64 (64 bit) (says supports win7)
    3. Installed CCleaner & cleaned registry
    4. attempted step 2 above, same error
    5. attempt to open the multiple programs that were causing the original side-by-side error, error still exists:

    "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail."

    Suggestions:

    * Start > Run > eventvwr (Windows Event Viewer) > Windows Logs > look in each of the logs (eg: Application, System, ...) for Level=Error, Source=SideBySide and see what the event id is & the full descr (per http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6vUOyxmU1o)

    * see exact errors/logs in sxstrace.exe (per http://www.codeproject.com/KB/winsdk/sidebysideerror.aspx)

    * full anti-virus scan (has trend)

    * install Ad-Aware & do full scan

    Anything else please? :)

    Uninstall all the visual C++ programs, download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 (x64) Redistributable Package and check.
