Background installation ran into a problem

I just bought Office Home & Student 2013 and I have been running into problems non-stop.

First, the install wasn't working until I uninstalled the trial I had previously installed and now I think the install off the disc has completed, but I keep getting the message, "Background installation ran into a problem" and I don't know what it is trying to do (updating or validating or what?) but I still can't use microsoft word or powerpoint or anything.

It's very frustrating, please help.

Hi,

It looks like there are traces of Office installation files on the computer. Let us follow the Method 1 to remove any traces of Office 2013 installation files using the Microsoft Troubleshooter from the following article on your home computer:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

Step 2:

Restart the computer in Clean Boot. Follow the article to restart in Clean Boot:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting in clean boot, ensure you restart the computer in normal mode.

Login to www.office.com/myaccount with the same Live ID which was used to purchase Office 2013 Suite and click Install Office.

As we do not know the exact error message, you may also refer to the following article on general troubleshooting for installation of Office 2013/365:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2822317

Thank You
