Can someone tell me why Office for Mac does not include Access? I would love to buy an Apple computer, but need Access. Thanks. Riel

Not to disparage Jim's suggestion, but I doubt Access will be produced for the Mac regardless of demand or how nicely you ask :-) Access is heavily dependent on ActiveX Controls which is a Windows-only technology. Without it Access Forms & Reports would be nonexistent as would other core elements of the program. IMHO, the likelihood of any sort of acceptable imitation for the Mac is remote at best.

Other data management apps for the Mac can be used to interface with Access tables. There's also the option of using Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion to install Windows in a virtual machine on your Mac. You'd then be able to run the PC Office suite, including Access.

Regards,

Bob J.

FileMaker Is a Relational Program That can be be saved in PDF or Excel Format, in addition to FP7 format. And there is in addition to Mac Version there also is a PC Version. Go to FileMaker.com and see if It would work  similar to  Access.  There there are 3 versions FileMaker Pro, Advanced, and Server. they have just announced version 14. And there also is version for iPad and iPhone. There may be versions for  other phone tablet types as well.

So far there haven't been enough Mac customers willing to pay for Access to justify spending the money to make Access for the Mac. There are a lot more Mac users now, so anyone who wants to have Access for the Mac should let Microsoft know by filling in this web form:

Using Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac as a Relational Database and querying other database products

What Runs? Using Microsoft Access on a Mac without installing Windows or a virtual machine. (note Windows APIs will not be available using this method)

Thanks very much, Bob. Could you please suggest the data management apps you mention? And also what you mean by "in a virtual machine".

    Thanks & regards

    Riel
