header prints as ghost image

I have Word2004 on my iMac. I have a document with a header, much like the top of a resume, in which the header prints in a ghosted grey instead of in black and color like the rest of the document. I've used this document many time before with no problem. When i click on the header, it shows up in "color," and the rest of the document in ghosted grey. I e-mailed the document to myself before sending it to a possible business associate, and it sends the exact same way, and not as a full "colored" document. Any ideas?

The graying out of headers and footer from the main document view (and the converse when you access them) is standard Word behavior. The problem is if these differences in shading are carried out to the printed version. Is that the case?

If you make a PDF (Save As > PDF), headers, footers and main text flow should look uniform.

    Confirm all updates have been applied for;

    • Your version of OS X
    • Office 2004 [11.6.6]
    • Check the mfr's web site for an updated print driver
