Hide Document Properties - Server on Startup

When launching PowerPoint, somehow my blank.potx template shows the Document Properties - Server pane.

Is there a way to hide this by default? None of my other Office 2010 apps do this.

Maybe a better question: is there a way to show this pane by default? :^)

Hi dp

I had the same problem and whilst trying to solve it found this thread.

I did find a solution - through trial and error.

  1. Create a new presentation using your blank.potx
  2. File/Info and from the Check for Issues drop down select Inspect Document
  3. Check for all Document Properties and Custom XML  (not sure which is the offender)
  4. The results are shown I saw that there were document properties and personal info reported and custom XML
  5. Click the remove all against those items with reported issues then close the dialog
  6. Save as a potx, overwriting your blank .potx file

I hope this helps you (even if it is 2 years on :-) )

I also forgot to mention, yes, i am on a Corporate Domain. And we extensively use SharePoint. But I cannot believe that our Group Policy requires this property be used since

    1. The same behavior doesn't occur with any of the other Office 2010 apps I use
    2. We don't use any of SharePoint's Document Management capabilites as a rule
    3. It doesn't occur on my 2nd Machine

I will try backing up my Blank.potx on that machine and copying over the one from my primary machine to see what happens there. I will update this thread afterward.

    Thanks again,

It happens with all templates - i have two templates i use, Blank.potx and one other that is the standard format for my group's decks.

I reproduced the same behavior of the Properties pane showing with the sample templates installed too.

Here's one thing i found: all but the blank.potx open with simply the "Document Properties" pane showing.

So, I changed the setting in the Save Option for "Offline editing options for document management server files" sfrom "the server drafts location on this computer" to "the Office Document Cache".

Then, when I close and reopen PPT a new presentation is created (using blank.potx) showing the "Document Properties - Server" pane.

But if i create a new presentation from any other template, the "Document Properties" [no "- Server"]  appears. If I close the Pane, then create another New document from any template other than blank.potx, it is created w/o showing the Document Properties pane.

    Most confusing.

Does this issue occur only with the templates or with all the presentations?

What happens if you click on Close (X mark) at the top right corner of the Document Information Panel?

Are the document properties saved on to a document management server?

Is the computer on a domain/network?

If yes, this option may be controlled by the group policy settings in place. You may have to check with the IT system administrator for more information regarding these settings.
