I keep getting this error message when saving my file which is only 3MB:
1. Error were detected while saving c:.... file name. Microsoft office excel may be able to save the file by removing or repairing some features. To make the repairs in a new file. Click continue. To Cancel Saving the file, click cancel...2. When I click Continue.. it gives another message " Excel encountered errors during save. However excel was able to minimally save your file to c:\ path.. file.xlsb.3. Clikc ok and get a message in a box "Damage to the file was so extensive that repairs were not possible. Excel attempted to save your formulas and values, but some data may have been lost or corrupted."
Please advise how I can resolve this issue. Thanks.

I faced this problem and I checked your solution, then I realized that my problem was neither of the reasons listed. So I spent some time to do the test by doing CTRL+S after every action I did. Finally I realized that it was the pictures I was trying to copy together with the table I made! I just copied the table without pictures first then inserted the pictures again to make my file saved. I think Excel team need to help us out of this in the future.
Same here, Juliet. This is very troublesome since said pictures are evidences for my excel workpapers. The issue seems to vary according to the way you copy the picture. This generates a lot of repeated work and unnecessary time consumption with all the trial and error pastes until it saves.
I still haven't figured the faulty copy pattern that causes this, but I really wish Microsoft would release a patch for this. They say in the following article it happens only on Excel 97 and below, but I'm using Excel 2010 and this is a frequent problem. And it occurs just as in the article, deleting the embedded content solves the issue. If you don't save step by step you can lose hours of work. About time for MS to give us a final solution.
