Find and Replace not working?

I am trying to find and replace a whole lot of the word "and" with a "&" and it is not working.

I have even tried just searching for the word "and" and it says the search item was not found, even though there are 75+ on the page.

I have even opened up a blank document and started from scratch by just typing in a 2 letter word(at) and doing the ctr + h, then type the word "at" in the find field and @ in the replace field and it will say it made 0 replacements.

I am using Word 2007

Thanks in Advance

Also look just under the Find input box. If there are any formatting commands displayed there you will have to clear the find formatting by clicking on the MORE button, the clicking on the "no formatting" button.

In the Replace dialog, click the More button and make sure none of the check boxes are checked.
