Hi,

In all versions of Excel, pivot tables are far more flexible than Data > Subtotal.  You can Group Dates, write formulas, use slicers, create charts from pivot tables.  Data > Subtotal only summarises data - essentially generates a series of SUMIF(), COUNTIF(), MAX IF etc.
