Excel 2007 Error Message: Cannot use object linking and embedding

Hello,

We've got a user who receives the following error when they open up Excel 2007:

Cannot use object linking and embedding

We've researched this issue to death but we can't seem to find a workable solution.

Here is what we've tried so far:

  • We've checked the DCOM config settings. The customer didn't even have a Microsoft Excel option listed. We initially thought this might be the problem so we had someone else pull up the DCOM settings and they didn't have it either.
  • We've gone to File -> Advanced -> General ->and made sure Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) was unchecked
  • We've gone to C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12 -> Right-clicked on the excel.exe icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> made sure all boxes were unchecked
  • We've repaired Office
  • We've reinstalled Office
  • One article even suggested that it might be a print driver issue, so we reinstalled the printer.

At this point, we considered re-imaging the user's laptop. Then we got a phone call from another user experiencing the same problem. Any other suggestions, tips or assistance you can provide us would be most welcome.

Thank you

I also have just now encountered the same problem,

    I have Windows Vista 64-bit.

I hope by explaining how this started in my case, it may help in finding a solution.

In my case, my laptop was closed down / powered off, whilst I was editing an excel

    file.

I restarted my laptop, and tried to open excel, the file I was editing was offered

in the recovery portion of the sheet. I attempted to recover, And this failed,

    And crashed the excel application.

Thereafter I encounter the problem described.

All excel files I try to open ends up in the Manage - Disabled list and causes

excel to Stop Running, I Re-enable them the same thing happens again.

    Hoping this helps..

    Hi,

Are you trying to open an Excel file saved on a network or saved on the local computer?

If it is from a network, copy it to the local computer try to open it and verify the status.

Verify if this issue happens with specific Excel file or with all the files.

Reply with the results to help you better.
