Footnote fonts keep changing sized

I am writing a document with footnotes. The footnotes are of a different font size to the main text. But the font size keeps changing - each time I save or load the file. Any ideas how to 'fix' the footnote fonts.

In addition to Stefan's suggestion you may also check the 'Footnote Text' style and edit it as per your requirements and apply that style to the footnotes and check if it helps:

  • Insert the footnote.
  • Click on Format< Styles and Formatting.
  • Click on the drop down for Show.
  • Choose the option Custom.
  • Select 'All Styles' under Category.
  • Click on 'Show All' and Ok.
  • Now highlight the footnote.

Double click on 'Footnote Text' style under 'Styles and Formatting'

In Tools | Templates and Add-Ins, make sure that "Automatically update document styles" is cleared. Then modify the Footnote Text style to suit your needs: Right-click a footnote paragraph, click Style on the context menu, and then click Modify. Make the desired changes in the Modify Style dialog box.
