run-time error 5935

I'm in the middle of writing a thesis with footnotes.  I deleted a footnote, but the separator line stayed.  I've tried to open the "show footnotes" box and I get a pop-up from Visual Basic stating "run-tiime error 5935" "comment, footnotes or endnotes can only be added to the main story".

I've only typed 12 pages, so I could retype it, but I'd rather just fix the problem.  Any idea what I need to do?

Thanks for your help.

Thank you for offering to look at my file.  I think I figured out the problem.  I'm using a software product called Dr. Paper to format my thesis type papers.  I re-typed the first paper when I got the run time error and did not use Dr. Paper.  I had no problems.  I started a second paper, and I had the same error.  Once again, I re-typed without Dr. Paper and I had no problems simply using Word, without Dr. Paper.  Now that I've typed a couple of lengthy papers on my own, I am more familiar with how to set up the formatting and I will not use Dr. Paper again.

If you still want the file bc you are curious about it, I will send it to you.

Thanks again for your help.

I get the same error in the Draft view.

If you want to send the file to me at dkr[atsymbol]mvps[dot]org I will take a look at the problem.

Try switching to Draft view and then on Show Notes in the Footnotes section of the References tab of the ribbon.
