Problem with automatic "highlighting"

As I type a WORD document, quite often the text starts HIGHLIGHTING in blue by itself and I am "locked" and cannot get out!

This problem occurs mainly if something [pic or text] has been added to the document.

Clicking on Editing --> then SELECT--> then Select objects seems to have some effect but does not fix the problem.

To save the document does not fix the problem, when the document is reopened the same highlighting is still present!

This is extremely frustrating!  Can anyone help me?

This problem has only started in recent months, I have been using Office 2007 [student] on Vista.

This problem was also asked in 2009 - I can not find the answer?

I HAVE FOUND A WAY TO CANCEL THE "LOCKING SELECTION OF THE WHOLE DOCUMENT THAT OCCURS AUTOMATICALLY"

After the document is selected [automatically] - If I left click and hold at the beginning of the document, then press ESCAPE - this unlocks the document for this occasion ONLY!

I am about to load Office 2007 onto a new computer, so I hope you can solve my problem before I have to do this load.

I explained the difference between selecting and highlighting in my first paragraph. "Highlighting" is applying a Text Highlight Color. This is not the same thing as the font color, nor is it the same thing as text shading, though it creates a similar effect. It's like using a physical highlighter on printed text.

Where did you find the "original 2009 question"?

What is the difference between 'selected and highlighted?'

Most of the time the text is highlighted is after trying to enter a new line.  The new line does not happen and the text is highlited and locked [the whole document].

I did a search in "HELP" for Extended Selection but found nothing I could identify as relating to automatic highlighting.

How is 'Extended Selection' set or checked as to it's settings.  I have used Word 2007 for years [almost daily], how could this setting be changed [even by accident]?

What part of your question didn't I answered.

Escape did nothing, however on some occasions, if the curser is clicked before the first character in the document, typing can sometimes return.

The highlighting problem is less likely to happen if there is no copy and paste into the document.

Well, you didn't really answer my question, but since you say, "I assume that any single letter would replace the total document as it is all highlighted," I take it that you mean "selected" rather than "highlighted." In that case, perhaps you have the Extend Selection feature enabled. If so, you should be able to exit it with ESC.

    Hi,

    I hope you can help.

Note;  The highlight happens automatically, I may have just inserted something into the body of text, or have sometime previously.

Once the highlight has occurred nothing can be done to do anything other than save the document as is - nothing further can be added or changed.  I assume that any single letter would replace the total document as it is all highlighted.

I have tried the Print preview and there was no sign of the highlight, in the document I tried.

I opened the document [there was no highlight], I clicked on the middle of the document and the curser appeared normally [no highlight], I then clicked on another spot in the document and automatically the text between the two curser places was highlighted, I then clicked on the start of the document and it was highlighted from the first curser to the beginning of the document.

I totally removed Office 2007 and reloaded it - the same problem existed [automatic highlighting].

Everytime I say highlighted I mean the blue-grey highlight colour selection.

Just to clarify, by "highlighting" do you mean just selecting the text or actually applying a blue highlight color? Since it persists on closing and reopening, I assume it is the latter. Do you see the highlight in Print Preview?
