I now have Windows 8 with Office 2010. When I try to open an embedded Word document in an Excel file I receive the following error message - Cannot start the source application for this object. No problem in Vista. I see a new drop down menu format "Drawing Tools" as well.

Any ideas??

    Hi Roy,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thanks for posting the question.

As per the description provided, it looks like you are unable to open embedded Word document in Excel 2010.

I would assist you to open embedded Word document in Excel file, you may try to open Excel in application safe by following the steps below and check if it works fine:

Hold the Windows button and click on ‘R’ on your key board, type ‘Excel/ safe’ without quotes in ‘Run’ window

Note: there is a space between ‘Excel’ and /

If Excel works fine in application safe you may use the ‘Run all from My Computer’ option from the following link and check if you are able to access the embedded Word files in Excel:

    Thank you.
