How to Enable Web Query

I'm using a spreadsheet carried over from Office 2008 that links with a external source.  I know the source and want to run the query when I open the workbook.  However, all I get is the message:  Data connections have been disabled.  When I click the option to "Enable Content" nothing really happens.

How / where do I enable data connections so I can run this external web query?  I tried using "Help" to no avail and so far haven't found anything beyond Enabling Macros in System PReferences.  (And, this doesn't work even if I have the "macro warning" turned off, i.e. unchecked.)

Thanks in advance,

Carl

    Hi Cody -

In Excel 2008, I get the query tool bar to run the query and, when I click on the run icon, the query pulls in data appropriately; not so in Excel 2011.

I think the issue may be that when I open the spreadsheet I have the error "Data connections have been disabled."  So, that begs the question for me - how do i enable data connections?

    Thanks,

    Carl

    Hey Carl,

If you choose Data > Refresh Data from the Menu Bar at the top of your screen, does the query properly refresh?

If not, are you finding that the query still refreshes correctly in Excel 2008?

It's difficult to say exactly why it's not pulling new data without knowing anything about the spreadsheet. It might help if you could share the Excel workbook with us.
