Cannot Read Mac file on a Windows PC

My daughter has saved a mac file onto a USB stick and now cannot read the file on a PC running windows 2010.  Comes up asking the question cannot format disc.  Please help?

Did she format the Stick for mac operating system?

Its not necessary.  Just copy the file to the stick. The Mac OS can read files from DOS or windows Formatted drive just fine.

And NEVER open directly off the stick. ALWAYS copy from stick to your PC computer (or another Mac for that matter).

Also make sure when saving the file to save with the doc (docx), xls (xslx), ppt (pptx) extension.

example: Thesis.docx

avoid spaces in names  example: My Thesis should be My_Thesis.

Avoid Characters in the name that work on Mac but not Windows.
