Opening a document in .mpp

I am trying to open a document from my online class with file extension .mpp but it keeps trying to open up in word. Any advice on how to get it to open in the correct program?

Do you have Microsoft Project or appropriate program installed to open the file?

If yes, right click on the file > Open with > Choose default program.

Select ‘Microsoft Project’ from the list, make sure the option below ‘Always use this application to open this kind of file is checked’ and click OK.
