Setup error Word and Excel, 'The setup controller has encountered a problem during install

Today I have tried opening Word and Excell via 'Office Home and Student 2010', I am greeted with these messages:-

SetUp Error...'The setup controller has encountered a problem during install. Please review the log files for further information on the error''

also... A red cross message:-

'Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010 cannot verify the licence for this application. A repair attempt failed or was canceled by the user. The application will now close down'

I only encountered these messages whilst having a problem with Norton Internet Security 2010, the software would not install and an old version would not uninstall so I had to download a removal tool from norton's community, I also wasn't able to get the internet so done a 'system restore' that took me back 3 days, gladly the intenet returned but my Word and Excell did not return so I done an on-line chat with Norton were a chap 'remotely' a took over my pc, he could see me trying to access Word and Excell and the error messages I received so he uninstalled my Norton that I accessed Word and Excell and still the error messages and the programs for both not opening, he concluded saying the issue is not with Norton but with Microsoft.

I have been trying to deal with this issue for 7 hours !!!!!!, speaking as well to my service provider who wants to charge me for support... Spoke via 'chat' to Norton twice, then I have been trying to search for answers to my problems myself. Word and Excell definately were working before I began doing the Norton install, I just don't know what has happened, it's driving me CRAZY.

Please can some one help me.

Should I try uninstalling 'Office and Student 2010' and installing again but won't I loose the documents etc that I have already in Word and Excell, my husband and I both have information relating to our jobs that we use all the time.

It looks like Office 2010 setup and installation have been corrupted. We will need to manually remove Office 2010 and re-install.

Refer the Method and run the FIX IT from the following article to manually remove Office 2010 from the computer:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301#Method2

NOTE: You will not lose any documents or files created by the Office applications. The data is stored locally on the computer. Once Office 2010 is re-installed, you will be able to access the files with the respective Office applications.

After the Office 2010 suite is removed, restart the computer and install Office 2010 suite.
