printer is not receiving data, does not respond

My laptop is automatically configured and connected to the HP Laserjet 4250 via a USB cable.  When I click on the print command there is no response.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Lewis,

    Thank you for choosing Office and providing us an opportunity to assist you.

    I will help you to print the documents from Office 2010 starter edition. However I need more details:

    Does this issue occur with a particular Office document or any Office document?

    Are you able to print from other Windows applications like WordPad, notepad etc.

    To verify this, let us change the default printer to to XPS writer and check if the issue occurs. To change the default printer follow the steps in this link:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows7/Change-your-default-printer

    If you are able to print after changing the default printer, then you may have to update the printer drivers.
