microsoft visual basic for applications, class not registered Looking for object with CLSID

I run windows 7, 64-bit.  I have just installed a major update to Windows 7 and MS Office 2010 (see files below).  When I start Powerpoint, I now get the following in a panel:

microsoft visual basic for applications, class not registered Looking for object with CLSID:{C62A690F0-16DC-11CE-9E98-00AA00574A4F }

I cannot get rid of the panel, and I cannot run PowerPoint without this panel appearing.  I need to get this sorted asap.  Any ideas please

Julian

Hello Julian

I only found 1 article and it refers to MS Visual C++.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/238610

I would start with a repair of Office first:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/repair-or-remove-office-2010-HA010357402.aspx

If that does not fix the issue, try repairing or re-installing MS Visual C++ Red.

2008 64b: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15336

Hope that helps

Thanks...

    Hi Julian Grenfell,

    1. Does the issue occur only when you open power point?
    2. Which updates did you install?

I would suggest you to see which updates are installed:

See which Windows updates are installed

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/See-which-Windows-updates-are-installed

I would suggest you to see the following link:

    a. Click on start

    b. Type command prompt in the start search bar and right click on it nd select Run as administrator.

    c. Now in the command prompt window type Regsvr32 fm20.dll, press Enter

    The following message should appear:

    DllRegisterServer in c:\windows\system\fm20.dll succeeded.

The file Fm20.dll should be registered correctly.

If the issue occurs only with power point, then I would suggest you to post.

Thank you for your prompt response, I supplied a list of the updates in my first post on this subject.  I tried the Command Prompt route you suggested, but got the following response: "The Module fm20.dll failed to load.  Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files.  The specified module could not be found"

The issue appears to be only with PowerPoint (Word, Note, Publisher, and Access seem OK)

    TonyMac

Many thanks for the helpful response.  However, before I received your response, I had 'restored' Windows 7 to an earlier date (accepting that I would need to do some re-installing).  This seems to have cured the problem for now (fingers crossed!).  I have archived your solution in case there is a return match!

    Regards

    Julian
